Only twenty minutes outside of Cape Town, One of out every four children in Khayelitsha suffers from chronic malnutrition. We believe everyone should have access to food and water. We searched high and low to find a clinic that helps to feed those who aren't quite as fortunate as we are. We decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from all our goods to the Philani Clinic. The Philani Clinic is located in Khayelitsha. Started in 1987, by Dr. Ingrid Le Roux, this organization is committed to the protection of children's rights, provision of proper nutrition and health care. This ensures each child has the chance to reach his/her full developmental potential.
The Philani Weaving Project is a crucial arm of the organization that aims to combat poverty and dependency, which are often the root causes of malnutrition in children. Many of the mothers who bring malnourished children to the Philani Centers are destitute. Through the Weaving Project, they are offered education, empowerment, and skills training, so they can earn an income and become self-reliant.
